Description and History

1970 Datsun 240Z race car, Chassis Number HLS30-01835, built and raced by Bob Sharp Racing.  Considered one of the most iconic race cars of all time. 

The car was originally built by Bob Sharp Racing and raced in C production where it won the championship  in ___________.  The car was then converted to an IMSA GTU car in 1976, after Bob Sharp crashed his original IMSA GTU car. It subsequently set IMSA GTU lap records at Brainerd, Hallet, Mid America, Pocono, Sears Point, Daytona, Lime Rock, Mid Ohio, Road Atlanta and Talladega. Famous drivers include Bob Sharp, Elliot Forbes Robinson, Sam Posey and others. 

Engine:
Built by Rebello in CA. 2.8 Liter block built to 3.0 Liters with special HD diesel crank and Eagle rods. Forged pistons – compression 12.5 to 1. Carbs are Mikuni 44’s massaged by Rebello with velocity stacks. Engine is dry-sumped with Peterson pump and dry sump tank. 

Clutch:
Quartermaster 7.5 inch racing clutch also with 4 race weekends

Transmission:
Nissan Comp Option 2 direct drive rebuilt by Jason Jasensky (original Bob Sharp Racing transmission mechanic)

Rear End:
Nissan R200 3.90 ratio with Quaiffe Limited Slip. Rear diff coolers are on car for endurance races (original equipment as raced) TCA and rear arms modified by Bob Sharp Racing fully adjustable including a unique feature of the rear suspension making it adjustable for bump steer.

Brakes:
AP Lockheed 4 pistons on all four corners (original brakes as raced in late 1970’s).

Shocks:
Koni coil over type shocks on all 4 corners as originally raced which are adjustable for ride height and rebound

Wheels:
Panasports (on the car)  11in x 16in front and 12in x 16in rear

Tires:
Goodyear Eagle Slicks 25 x 13 x 16 rear 23.5 x 10.5 x 16 front

Fuel Cell:
ATL Custom Cell

Bodywork:
Wings, arches and bonnet are fiberglass as built and raced by Bob Sharp Racing Rear deck lid is steel.   The body is in very good shape but it is not a shelf queen. 

Fire Extinguisher:
Fitted with nozzles for gas tank, interior, driver and under bonnet

Harnesses:
Willans Quick Release seat belts 2002

Recent Car Shows
The car has been  shown at several significant car shows and has won a number of awards.  In 2010, t
he Nissan factory  paid to transport this car to their Tennessee based auto manufacturing plant for the 40th anniversary celebration of the Z car and then trailered it to the Montery Historics as part of the Nissan display.  

In 2018, this Bob Sharp Racing IMSA GTU Z was displayed as part of a special tribute to championship race car driver Sam Posey at the Saratoga Auto Museum.

Present Condition:
Vehicle is in race configuration as campaigned by Bob Sharp Racing and driven by Sam Posey.  The engine is like new with only a total of four 30 minute sprint races.
